In a press conference held in Makati last May 29, Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Arsenio M. Balisacan (3rd from left) reported that the country’s economy grew by 5.7% in the first quarter of 2014 even with the lingering effects of the disasters that hit the country during the last quarter of 2013. The Philippines is the third fastest economy in Asia in this period, next only to China with 7.4 percent and Malaysia with 6.2 percent.
Joining Secretary Balisacan were Interim Deputy National Statistician Romeo S. Recide (left), National Statistician Lisa Grace S. Bersales (2nd from left), and NEDA Deputy Director-General Emmanuel F. Esguerra (right).
