The Governments of the Philippines and Japan held a policy consultation on Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) last October 23 at the NEDA Boardroom to discuss future developments in bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of economic development, maritime cooperation, Mindanao Peace Process, and people to people exchanges.
NEDA Deputy Director-General Rolando G. Tungpalan (top picture, 3rd from right) expressed the Philippine government’s appreciation and recognition of Japan’s sustained support in helping the country maximize opportunities and overcome challenges in accomplishing the Updated Philippine Development Plan.
Meanwhile, the Japanese delegation, led by Director Tadayuki Miyashita of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (bottom picture, 5th from left), expressed their appreciation for the NEDA Board’s recent approval of two major ODA projects, the Metro Manila Interchange Construction Project (Phase VI) and the Flood Risk Management for Cagayan De Oro River. They also sought continuous cooperation in disaster risk management, maritime safety and security, and sustainable development. The delegation also conveyed Japan’s readiness to participate in peace consultations in Mindanao and infrastructure development in the Bangsamoro; as well as provide development assistance in Mindanao, especially in the areas of livelihood development and employment creation.
