MARCH 11, 2025 – Members of the Bicol Regional Development Council (RDC) expressed their gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his support of vital projects, such as flood control and management in critical areas of the region. These initiatives are expected to foster more sustainable and inclusive growth throughout the region, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
The President met with Bicol RDC officials on Friday (March 7) to discuss the region’s accomplishments, challenges, and ongoing initiatives. The meeting brought together provincial leaders, mayors, national and regional government officials, and representatives from the private sector.
“This meeting with President Marcos has been a pivotal moment for the Bicol region. His ongoing support for important projects, such as flood control and management within the Bicol River basin, has reinforced our determination to tackle significant development challenges. We have reaffirmed our commitment not only to address these urgent issues but also to enhance the overall quality of life for Bicolanos,” NEDA Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan said.
The discussions highlighted significant progress across various sectors, focusing on key infrastructure projects to boost economic growth in the region.
The meeting also shed light on challenges facing regional infrastructure, such as persistent flooding that damages main roads like the Andaya and Daang Maharlika Highways. Regional officials raised concerns affecting the healthcare and education sectors as well.
To address these issues, President Marcos emphasized the importance of crafting a new master plan to mitigate flooding risks and enhance the resilience of local communities.
Additionally, President Marcos underscored the need to improve healthcare services by amending existing healthcare policies. He stressed that enhancing healthcare access and quality would be essential in responding to the needs of the Bicolanos.
He also highlighted the significance of a strong partnership between local government units and national agencies to overcome regional challenges. The President’s proactive stance, exemplified by his recent issuance of Executive Order No. 82, s. 2025 aims to empower the RDCs to play a more decisive role in shaping the regional development agenda.
NEDA Undersecretary for the Regional Development Group Carlos Bernardo Abad Santos presented significant regional developments in the economic and social sectors. NEDA Undersecretary for the Investment Programming Group Joseph J. Capuno led the discussion on ongoing projects and actions to address critical issues identified during the meeting.
