The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) through Republic Act No. 10922 leads the celebration of the Economic and Financial Literacy Week, which is set every second week of November annually.

Under this act, NEDA is directed to plan, initiate, execute, and encourage knowledge-expanding activities on economic and financial literacy, which may be adopted by government agencies (including government-owned and-controlled corporations (GOCCs) and local government units (LGUs)), instrumentalities and educational institutions.

It also directs the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Education (DepED), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), National Youth Commission (NYC), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Presidential Communication Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO), Philippine Economic Society (PES) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) as well as all other agencies identified by NEDA to collaborate and coordinate in advocating and implementing the activities celebrating the Economic and Financial Literacy Week.

In line with this, NEDA will be conducting a series of activities that will develop the national consciousness on economic and financial literacy of the Filipino people, particularly the youth, Overseas Filipino Workers, and young professionals.

NEDA, through the Economic and Financial Literacy Week, seeks to do the following:

  1. Improve the economic and financial literacy of the Filipino people;
  2. Clarify misconceptions about the economy;
  3. Rouse the interest of the public in the formulation of economic and financial programs and policies; and
  4. Influence educators to integrate economics into their curriculum and help form productive, involved and financially wise citizens.
