Members of the House of Representatives of Japan led by Mikio Shimoji paid a courtesy call on Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Arsenio M. Balisacan last August 11 at the NEDA Executive Lounge.

Balisacan discussed with the six officials, representing Japan Innovation Party, the areas for possible extended cooperation between Philippines and Japan mostly in infrastructure development. “The single most constraint in sustaining economic development growth is to solve the bottlenecks in infrastructure particularly in transport, flood control and disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction,” he said.

The NEDA Secretary also regarded the technological knowledge and capacities of Japan in disaster risk preparedness and recovery. He said that information sharing and research could be one of the avenues for this collaboration.

Also present during the courtesy call is Deputy-Director General Rolando G. Tungpalan.
