NEDA Deputy Director-General Emmanuel F. Esguerra (second from left) stressed the importance of ensuring employment security during the press launch of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) 12th Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) last August 28 at NEDA, Makati City.
To ensure that workers are able to transition smoothly between jobs, DDG Esguerra cited the importance of policy, training and labor market institutions. Furthermore, he stressed that rigidities in labor market institutions must be addressed without losing sight of the importance of social protection mechanisms, which will serve as safety nets for workers who are subject to risks of unemployment.
Other government officials present at the conference were (from left to right): PIDS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Aniceto Orbeta, PIDS President Gilbert Llanto, and Department of Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary Rafaelita Aldaba, among others.
