SAMB Congratulates New PSRTI Head

Zita Villa Juan-Albacea took her oath before Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General (DG) Arsenio M. Balisacan as the Executive Director of the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) on April 24, 2014 at the NEDA Central Office in Pasig City.

Albacea completed her bachelor’s (1982, cum laude), master’s (1987), and doctoral (1999) degrees in Statisticsfrom the University of the PhilippinesLos Baños (UPLB). She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Econometrics from the Australian National University. Prior to her appointment to PSRTI, she was a professor and dean of the UPLB-College of Arts and Sciences.

Together with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the PSRTI was established through Republic Act 10625, or the Philippine Statistics Act of 2013.  Formerly known as the Statistical Research and Training Center (SRTC), the PSRTI develops a comprehensive and integrated research and training program on the theories, concepts and methodologies for the promotion of the Philippine Statistical System.  Together with the PSA, it conducts development activities to improve the conduct of censuses, surveys and other data collection activities.  The governing boards of PSA and PSRTI are headed by the NEDA DG.
