UNIDO Courtesy Call

Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Arsenio M. Balisacan  (right) met with the newly-appointed Philippine Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Fakhruddin Azizi (left) last Monday, May 19, at the NEDA office in Ortigas.

In the meeting, Mr. Azizi discussed the UNIDO’s current and planned projects and programs in the Philippines that focus on environmental protection, energy efficiency, and agri-industry. He also tackled the organization’s plan on being more involved in the manufacturing sector of the country in terms of technology transfer and policy. Secretary Balisacan, in turn, said that the Philippine government is keen on addressing the bottlenecks in the industry sector. He added that UNIDO can seek NEDA’s role in helping the government in this area.

Mr. Azizi assumed his post as UNIDO Representative last March 1. He has worked as UNIDO head in Afghanistan since 2008.
